Traditional Overnight Camps
Traditional 2 Week Camps
At Camp Can-Aqua, campers are grouped into cozy cabins within our two camp sections, organized by age and biological sex. Our traditional 2 and 4 week programs deliver some of the best overnight camp experiences in Ontario, filled with adventure, growth, and unforgettable memories.
With a strong focus on individualized instruction, campers get the chance to learn and progress at their own pace. Our unique awards system celebrates every step of growth, weaving skill development seamlessly into the fun of camp life.
Each day brings a mix of activities, sometimes with their cabin, section, or team, and other times with the entire camp community. As sessions unfold, campers embark on exciting overnight camping trips with their cabin (Grades 1–6 spend one night, Grades 7–10 spend two).
The highlight of every session is our Can-Aqua Games. Each session, campers dive into our high-energy games, and the camp divides into three teams for an epic, all-out competition that every camper remembers for years to come.

Traditional 1 Week Camps
Short Stay 1 Week Sessions
Our Single Week Programs are the perfect introduction to overnight camp for younger campers. Designed as a fun and welcoming entry point, these sessions give children a chance to sample the magic of life at Camp Can-Aqua while building confidence and making new friends.
Campers live within each section, in cozy cabins with other short-stay campers close in age. Each day is filled with variety: half the day is spent exploring electives they choose themselves, and the other half is enjoyed in group rotations, where cabins move together through a wide range of camp activities. This balance gives campers both independence and the excitement of shared adventure.
Single-week sessions run within our traditional two-week program, ensuring campers experience the full Can-Aqua spirit. Please note that bussing is available one way only:
- Sessions A, C, E & G: bus to camp provided
- Sessions B, D, F & H: bus home from camp provided

Leadership Development Camps
Our Leadership programs pair the development of key social and cooperative skills, with structured activity instruction to ensure candidates are provided with a balance of hard skills, social skills and life skills. Beginning at fourteen years of age, these programs encourage candidates to take on responsibilities for role modelling as they are challenged to work to achieve program awards and improve upon personal fitness, all while supporting the younger campers in our community.
Leaders in our community, candidates will work towards achieving certified levels in First Aid, CPR and NLS. All leadership programs involve an out-trip opportunities as well and provide your young leaders with ample opportunities to continue to learn and grow, while taking on more responsibilities to ensure our camp community remains exceptional.
Forerunners (4Run)
The Forerunner program is designed for candidates who are 14 years of age by the upcoming camping season (priority given to those born before Jan). Residing in the Summit Leadership Village, Forerunners will take part in daily leadership challenges as they are guided through the selection of skill based programs while they work towards their Merit award (when a camper achieves the highest awards in four different disciplines at camp) as well as their Bronze Medallion swimming level. In addition, their group they will plan and implement a 5-day overnight in Anstruther or Algonquin Park. Leading up to this trip, candidates will be busy as they craft their own paddle in the wood working studio.
The program is an option for kids who are 14 and looking for a new challenge at camp. While it is great preparation for the LIT program, it is not required in order to take part in LIT at 15.

Leaders in Training (LIT)
The LIT is a one-month program for candidates who are 15 years of age by the upcoming camping season (priority given to those born before Jan 1). Throughout the month, participants will be encouraged to begin thinking as a leader, while still enjoying the freedom of program selection each day. Participants work towards earning their Bronze Cross during the program.
The dedicated LIT staff team will guide these candidates throughout their month experience as they learn and grow, while still engaging in personal recreational pursuits. The Can-Aqua LIT program has two distinct program focuses:
Canoe Trip – An 8 day trip gives participants the opportunity to learn even more about the preparation, organization and leadership of a canoe trip. The canoe trip takes place nearby in Northern Algonquin Park. An LIT Director supervises each trip group with the support our tripping staff.
Leadership Skill Development- The Can-Aqua LIT program offers a unique approach to skill development. Half of each day is devoted to program requirements, which involve swimming, leadership and trip skills preparation. From there, LIT’s take to the Can-Aqua Programming Board each day to select the other programs which they wish to participate in. Not only do LIT’s have full access to all elective program choices but they will also benefit from specialized group programs throughout the month.

Junior Counsellors (JRC)
The Can-Aqua JRC represents a big step in a transition from a camper to a counsellor. This program is one month in duration and is available during July or August Camp each year. JRC’s reside in their own cabins for two weeks, then get assigned to specific camper cabins based on age preferences and availability for the remainder of their month. Candidates will divide their day between personal development and as a support to their assigned cabin where they will eat meals, socialize at rest hour and support during unstructured times at camp.
The focus of the JRC program is to develop and enhance the soft skills of exceptional leadership. In addition, candidates will train to complete their Standard First Aid, Level “C” CPR and their National Lifeguarding Level (NLS).
Throughout their month at camp, JRC’s must balance skill development, with program implementation, advanced trip skills and cabin based leadership. In addition to their own skill development, they will also represent Can-Aqua as Leadership Ambassadors, as they tour partner Ontario Summer Camps and take part is a very special white water rafting trip.
Throughout the month, the JRC group will participate in Kindred Sessions on the following:
- Leadership Skills

- Ages and Stages
- Role Modelling
- Risk Management
- Developing a community with campers
- Sensitive Issues o Leadership Style/Sigma Leadership

Specialty Camps
Specialty Camps at Can-Aqua have been designed to offer kids who have specific passions, a specialized focus while still submerged in summer camp life.
These programs are ideal for kids who want to take part in summer camp but have a passion for waterski and/or wake boarding and Film Production. Campers in specialized programs lose 1-3 electives each day in place of their special focus, but they still remain very connected to the camp community. This structure ensures all campers enrolled in specialty programs are still actively engaged in the day to day camp life.
